Nature Photography Workshop on Lake Kariba
July 4-7, at Musango Safari Camp
With pro wildlife photographers Elyane and Cedric Jacquet
and one of Zimbabwe's top guide - Steve Edwards
What makes this workshop really extraordinary ?
To start with, the setting : beautiful unspoilt nature; the abundance of wildlife ; the absence of mass tourism. Enjoy the real “bush experience” that is getting increasingly rare. Not to mention the stunning scenery.
The animals evolve in their natural environment, far away from human intervention. You’ll witness intimate scenes of life - sometimes from very, very close, on foot, in a car - or on pontoon boats, which is an ideal, quiet, non-intrusive way for photographers and nature lovers to get stunning observations without vegetation in the way.
The birdlife is also second to none : Musango’s team has held the record for the number of bird species identified within 24 hours - and was the first team to record 200 species in a day. Another token of the natural riches of the area.
You'll get expert advise from Elyane and Cedric Jacquet, both international professional wildlife photographers with high credentials, while out on safari, and back at the lodge (review of the pictures you've taken, analyses of work by top photographers, help with your shooting techniques/
editing/post-processing/...).
During the workshop, they will both be coaching a small group of photographers to quickly improve your technique, notably enhancing your results. For those interested, Cedric will also talk about equipment he developed (floating blinds, customized RC vehicles, …) whereas Elyane can help with your editing, creating exhibitions, book design and publishing, ...
And Steve Edwards, owner of Musango Lodge and highly knowledgeable professional ranger will contribute to the experience while guiding you in his paradise.
And last but not least, back at the lodge, you'll be pampered by Wendy and the staff of Musango Safari Camp, staying in a charming bush camp on a private island.
Heaven !
Musango Safari Bush Camp is located on a private island, near the south-eastern shore of lake Kariba. It most definitely is one of the best places to enjoy the African bush. The abundant wildlife includes plenty of elephants, impalas, waterbucks, bushbucks, hippos, buffaloes, rock monitors, ... as well as over 400 species of birds ! The place is just a fantastic nature lover's paradise ...
Activities of the lodge include :
Steve is an outstanding guide.
Not only did he become the youngest ranger ever to join the
Department of National Parks & Wild Life Management, but he
also became Senior Examiner of the Zimbabwe Professional
Hunters and Guides Association. In addition, he has led anti-poaching
units and was a Provincial Warden in Matabeleland.
The main thread throughout his career is his passion for nature.
He transmits this passion and knowledge with great enthusiasm
- and humor.
For the last 25 years, he has managed a private concession.
It is located in an inaccessible region, southeast of Lake Kariba,
against the Matusadona nature reserve. Together with his wife Wendy, he built Musango Bush Camp on a 1 km long private island close to the bank of the largest man-made lake in the world.
Wendy is running the camp. She is masterful in "making a plan", and at filling guests bellies ... She's making everyone feel at home in the camp - and is a precious help for organizing your trip.
Elyane and Cedric JACQUET, both born in 1968, developed their passion for photography during a six months trip through Africa back in 1993. 10 years later, they quit their consulting jobs to become free-lance photographers. Elyane loves portrait and travel photography whereas Cedric’s heart lies with nature and wildlife photography.
Today they travel extensively and bring back images and stories from their adventures - from the far North to the southernmost part of the globe, places they discover on board their custom made expedition truck.
In an effort to help extraordinary conservationists they meet during their travels, they created PPNat - Photographers for the Preservation of Nature. Through photo exhibitions, films, conferences, collaborations with NGOs and major international instances, the aim of the association is to raise awareness to the lesser known or hardly loved animals, like the pangolins or vultures. Their work has been widely published (by National Geographic, ...), and they got awards at major photo contests (BBC Wildlife photographer of the Year, ...). They are now associate fellows from the iLCP (international league of conservation photographers).
Elyane et Cedric are also lecturers at the Royal Academy of Arts of Antwerp, at the Natural History Museum of London, at the GDT in Germany, and regularly work for Canon Benelux. Together they have designed and published two coffee-table books, and are currently working on a new one about their 25 years of travels throughout southern Africa.
